
The outcome of the Council of Jerusalem was to vindicate totally
the gospel that Paul preached among the Gentiles. Believers in
Christ, whether Jew or Gentile, are justified by their faith and neither the requirements nor the provisions of the old covenant apply
to them. Circumcision and “the law of Moses” have no place in
the scheme of salvation, except as pictures of the spiritual truth
revealed in Christ. Paul and the leaders of the Jerusalem church agreed to a division of work; Paul was to evangelize the Gentiles and they the
Jews. This agreement, however, was no parting of the ways. It was
based upon a common gospel, fellowship in Christ, and mutual
