1 Corinthians 13:8–13 enlarges upon Paul’s claim that biblical love never fails since it is the divine love shed abroad in a believer's heart by the Holy Spirit. He explains why some spiritual gifts (like prophecies, tongues, and special knowledge) became progressively redundant as Scripture was completed while others (like evangelists, pastors and teachers) remain until Christ returns. But only one gift, love, also remains eternally, which is why it is the greatest thing in time and eternity.
