God commands Joshua to be "strong and very courageous" as he leads the people of Israel into the promised land. Easy to say but much more difficult to obey, given the resistence they were likely to encounter. But the Lord points out to Joshua (and thus also to us) that there are three good reasons for courage in the face of the challenges of serving God, namely, the promises of God, the power of God and the presence of the pre-incarnate Christ. We should follow Joshua's example.
