On the day of Pentecost Peter preached what was probably the most effective evangelistic sermon ever, when 3000 souls were converted to Christ. Should we adopt the method he used? Today we tend to stress the circumstantial evidence (like the empty tomb) and the testimony of Christian believers, but Peter does not mention the first of these and refers only briefly to the second. How then does he present the gospel? By expounding the prophecies and predictions of the Old Testament regarding the Messiah! People can dispute what Christ accomplished by His death and reject the personal testimonies of Christians, but there is no argument against the historical fact that Christ's death and resurrection, together with their effects, were correctly predicted hundreds of years before they took place.
