According to Paul, the church at Corinth was composed of people God had chosen and called with a view to creating a local church that would glory in the LORD and not in itself or its abilites and gifts (1 Cor. 1:26-31). To that end He had chosen and called the weak rather than the strong, nonentities rather than nobles and so on, to achieve a result that would reflect His soveign power, glory and grace. This is divine social engineering and it has profound implications for those who gather in local churches today.
